State-of-the-art Padres baseball biomechanics lab at PLNU (Coming Soon)
Exciting times to come with the official announcement of a state-of-the-art baseball biomechanics lab to be developed at Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) Balboa Campus in partnership with the San Diego Padres.
The Padres are one of a number of teams in Major League Baseball (MLB) to adopt force analysis and motion capture technology into their player evaluation and development programs. The lab will feature world class AMTI multi-axis force plates as part of a custom designed instrumented pitching mound and instrumented batter’s boxes.
“What makes the Padres lab most unique — besides the dueling motion capture — is the integration of force plates, electromyography, Rapsodo and HitTrax that when paired with skeletal movement data can get to the bottom of what causes injury and what causes Shohei Ohtani-like success.” – Tom Friend, Sports Business Journal
The Padres Biomechanics Lab is set to be operational October 2023.
